Cary Park District Answers Questions On Dog Park Closure
Park district officials have received several emails questioning why the dog park remains closed and requesting that it be opened.
Press release from the Cary Park District/May 5, 2020:
A number of emails have been directed to the Park District questioning why the dog park remains closed and requesting that it be opened. Several have mentioned a specific concern, that the disc golf course is open and the dog park is closed.
The Board of Commissioners and staff continue to monitor and follow guidance provided by federal and state authorities pertaining to the operation and opening of specific park elements. Both the CDC and the IDPH have issued guidance that pets are to be “on-leash” and that dog parks are to be avoided.

For other park amenities, there is also specific guidance available. Playgrounds are closed. Golf courses may be open with strict restrictions. Multi use trails may be open with users encouraged to mind social distancing guidelines. There is no guidance on disc golf courses and the Board of Commissioners has chosen to leave this amenity open for use by the public with encouragement to follow social distancing guidelines.
The Park District remains hopeful that future guidance from federal and state authorities will modify the current state of park amenity and facility closings. Should this occur the Park District will move to open many amenities to the public as it is able, following federal and state authorities guidance to do so safely.
