Cary PD Hands Out Vouchers to Kids 'Caught' Wearing Helmets

The initiative started this past week.

CARY, IL -- Starting this past week, the Cary Police Department will begin an incentive program to encourage children to wear a helmet while riding their bike, scooter and roller skates and blades. Dr. Margaret “Maggie” Stefani from Pediatric Associations of Barrington, who is also a resident of Cary, received donations from local businesses to provide vouchers for free food. Those "caught" wearing their helmet could receive a voucher for free French fries at Breaking Bread, a milkshake at Kojaks, a donut from Country Donuts or custard from Culvers.

Patrol officers will have the vouchers handy in their patrol cars to hand out to kids ages 13 years old and under who they see wearing their helmets and other protective gear while out riding, scooting or roller-skating

The Cary Police Department partnered with Pediatric Associates of Barrington, Kojaks in Cary, Breaking Bread in Cary, Country Donuts in Crystal Lake and Culvers to make this summer initiative possible.
