Cary Village Board Bans Select Home-Based Businesses

The Cary Village Board approved an ordinance Tuesday banning select home-based businesses, the Northwest Herald is reporting.

The ordinance, approved by a 4 to 1 vote, in particular prohibits the sale of firearms from the home, the Northwest Herald article states.

The issue came to light when Cary resident Greg Karnauch inquired about starting a gun sales business in his home. Karnauch planned to sell the firearms primarily through on-line auctions with sales conducted by an appointment-only basis, the Northwest Herald states.

While Cary leaders said they welcome new businesses to the village, having firearms sold from a residential area was not the right fit, the story said.
