Longtime D300 Employee Faces Child Porn, Intimidation Charges

ALGONQUIN, IL — A longtime Community Unit School District 300 employee accused of soliciting child pornography, electronic harassment and cyberstalking is free on bail.

On Thursday, authorities said they have learned that Donald J. Peters, 34, who faces several felony charges, may have solicited students for their social media accounts while working for District 300.

Peters, of Cary, was arrested Tuesday after investigators obtained a search warrant and searched his home. He has been charged with child pornography - reproduce or distribute video; child pornography - solicit another to provide; two counts of intimidation; electronic harassment and cyberstalking.

Peters recently worked as an attendance and truancy assistant at Westfield Community School for nearly five years, according to his LinkedIn. He is not currently listed as an employee at Westfield on the staff and faculty page of the school's website.

Peters was also the head custodian at Harry D. Jacobs High School from June 2016 to September 2018, and a technology associated at Gary D. Wright School in Hampshire from January 2009 to June 2016, according to his LinkedIn.

The Algonquin Police Department has been working with Community Unit School District 300 in the ongoing investigation into Peters, and authorities are urging anyone who may have information related to the probe to call police at 847-658-4531.

The Algonquin Police Department, Cary Police Department, Illinois Attorney General's Office and the Lake County Sheriff's Office assisted in the probe into Peters.
