Computer Malfunction Messes With Fireworks Grand Finale

The fireworks show Sunday night in Crystal Lake ended early due to a computer error.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL -- A computer malfunction forced the city of Crystal Lake to cut its fireworks show short on Sunday night. The fireworks show, which is held on the last day of the Lakeside Festival, lasted 26.5 minutes but did not include the final 1.5-minute grand finale.

City officials said the show ended early due to an error in the firework vendor's computer control system, according to a news release from the city of Crystal Lake. The computer error caused the grand finale not to activate.

"The city apologizes for the shortened show and the confusion that followed," Crystal Lake Fire Chief Paul DeRaedt said in a news release. "The city utilizes a private vendor to provide the show and actions will be taken in the future to resolve this issue."
