Confusion Arises Over Where D26 Candidates Should File For Election
The filing period for candidates planning to run in the April 4, 2023, consolidated election begins Monday and continues through Friday.
CRYSTAL LAKE AND CARY, IL — McHenry County Clerk Joe Tirio says there's been some confusion in recent days regarding where candidates running for two local school boards should file for election.
Tirio says the confusion lies in the fact that the two school districts, Cary Community Consolidated School District 26 and Community Unit School District 300, overlap into multiple counties. But Tirio says state law requires board of education candidates to file in the county where the school district's principal office is located.
"We heard from prospective candidates that there was confusion," Tirio told Patch in an email response.

Since the main offices for both District 26 and District 300 are in McHenry County, potential candidates should plan to file at the county clerk's office in McHenry County, which is located at the county administration building, 667 Ware Road, Woodstock.

The filing period for candidates planning to run in the April 4, 2023, consolidated election began at 8 a.m. Monday and runs through 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 19.
