Coroner IDs Man Fatally Shot in Woodstock Parking Lot

Cesar Rangel, 41, died of a gunshot wound. He was found near the intersection of East Calhoun and South Jefferson streets early Friday.

A 41-year-old man fatally shot in Woodstock on Friday has been identified as Cesar Rangel. Rangel was found in a municipal parking lot during the early morning hours of Friday near the intersection of East Calhoun and South Jefferson streets in Woodstock. Authorities are investigating the death as a homicide and asking for the public's help in tracking down a suspect or suspects.

Police were first called to the parking lot at about 1:13 a.m. after receiving two 911 phone calls reporting gunfire, according to Woodstock police. Rangel was taken to a local area emergency room where he was pronounced deceased.

An autopsy performed on Friday revealed Rangel died of blood loss due to a gunshot wound, according to the McHenry County Coroner's Office news release.

Police have said they have developed information that leads them to believe the fatal shooting was an isolated event and no risk to the public exists, according to a news release from police. But, authorities have also asked for the public's help in identifying the offender, or offenders, involved in the incident. Anyone with information regarding the incident or the offenders involved is asked to call the McHenry County Major Investigation Assistance Team Tip Line at 815-363-2201.

The murder remains under investigation.
