Coventry Student Wins T-Shirt Design Contest

Congrats to R.J. Dinelli whose design will be featured on the Crystal Lake Police Department's National Night Out t-shirts.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL -- Artwork created by R.J. Dinelli, a fourth grade student at Coventry Elementary School was chosen by the Crystal Lake Police Department to represent this year’s National Night Out event in August. Crystal Lake Police Department Deputy Chief Derek Hyrkas and Community Relations Officer Ed Pluviose presented R.J. with a framed copy of his artwork and National Night Out T-shirts printed with his design on May 31, according to a news release. This is the second year for the contest.

The contest was created through a partnership between District 47 and the Crystal Lake Police Department. All third, fourth and fifth grade students in District 47 are eligible to enter, according to the news release. Drawings from each school are submitted to the CLPD, which then reviews and selects a winner. The winning design is printed on a T-shirt worn by the officers to promote the annual event.

National Night Out is hosted by police departments across the country to unite with residents of the communities in which they serve. This year’s National Night Out event, sponsored by the Crystal Lake Police Department, will be held on Aug. 1 at Three Oaks Recreation Area and will feature food, K-9 demonstrations, balloon/tattoo artists, and more.
