Coronavirus Shutdown: Restaurants Plan To Offer Takeout, Delivery

Many restaurants across the Chicago area are planning to offer curbside pickup and delivery in the coming weeks.

CHICAGO, IL — Restaurants and bars across the state will close for the rest of the month starting today. The move, which was announced by Gov. JB Pritzker on Sunday, is meant to combat the spread of the new coronavirus.

The statewide shutdown for dine-in customers at bars and restaurants will start at the close of business Monday, March 16. The businesses will remain shuttered until at least March 30.

Inevitably, the decision is going to have a huge impact on local economies as well as the many employees who may be out of work in the coming weeks. Not to mention small business owners, many who may already be struggling to keep their doors open, and community resources, which rely on sales taxes to fund operational costs.
