Crystal Lake Bans Recreational Burning Today
Dry and windy conditions lead officials to ban recreational burning for the next 24 hours.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL - The Crystal Lake Fire and Rescue Department has enacted a ban on any recreational burning for the next 24 hours due to the dry and windy conditions.
A red flag warning has been issued for counties throughout the Chicago area and will remain in effect through 5 p.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. A red flag warning means a combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to "extreme fire behavior."
The Crystal Lake Police Department sent out the following Nixle alert just before 11 a.m. on Wednesday:
