Crystal Lake, Cary Among Best IL Cities For Families: Study

CRYSTAL LAKE-CARY, IL — Crystal Lake and Cary have made the list of Illinois' best cities to raise a family, according to a recent study by WalletHub.

Crystal Lake took place No. 8, where Cary came in No. 22. Much of the northwest suburbs made the list, which is based on a number of factors like playgrounds per capita, attractions, median family income, affordable housing, crime rates and many others.

These factors are among 21 that WalletHub researchers used to compile the data, all organized into four major dimensions: 1) family life and fun, 2) education, health and safety, 3) affordability and 4) socio-economics. The rankings included 222 of Illinois' 1,299 municipalities.

Crystal Lake, while not specifically high in any category, placed between 30 and 54 in all four categories, meaning it's a well-balanced result.

Cary's ranks were a bit more widespread than Crystal Lake's, ranging from 15 (education, health and safety) to 170 (family life and fun).
