Local Dentists Are ‘Buying Back’ Halloween Candy to Support Troops

The candy that is dropped off will be donated to Operation Gratitude. Find out which dental offices are hosting buyback events.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL - Halloween is officially over. And, if you are like most families with children, there is plenty of Halloween candy left following your trick-or-treating excursions.

Or, perhaps, you did not get as many trick-or-treaters at your home as anticipated and you have big bowl of treats left on your counter.

Either way, not everyone wants those tempting sugary treats lying around.

One Crystal Lake dentist, Dr. Gregory Kubik, has teamed up with Operation Gratitude, an organization that sends care packages to military troops who are deployed overseas, to collect candy. For each pound of candy donated, Kubik, will give the child a raffle ticket for a chance to win a Samsung Tablet.

Candy can be dropped off at Kubik’s office, located at 490 Coventry Lane, between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 1 and Nov. 2, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Nov. 7, between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 8 through Nov. 10 and from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 12.

Randall Oaks Dental, at 2261 Randall Road in Carpentersville, is also buying back candy from kids. For each pound of candy that is donated, Randall Oaks will pay the kids $1. Up to five pounds can be donated, according to the dental office's Halloween Candy Buy Back Facebook event post.

The Carpentersville dental office will accept candy from 1 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1; from 1 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2; from 1 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3; and from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday, Nov. 4.

Last year, Randall Oaks Dental donated over 75 pounds to Operation Gratitude, according to a Randall Oaks Dental Facebook post.

Cary Grove Dental, 2615 3 Oaks Road #2-D in Cary, is also accepting candy donations and is giving $1 per pound of candy and up to $5 per child. The candy can be dropped off between Nov. 1 and Nov. 3 during the dental office's normal business hours, which are: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Nov. 1, 1 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 2 and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 3. Cary Grove Dental donates the candy to Packages 4 Patriots, which is based out of Elk Grove Village.

Meanwhile, Morningside Family Dental, 290 Randall Road Apt. A in Lake in the Hills, will be hosting a buyback event from Nov. 1 through Nov. 4. The flier below provides more information on that event.
