Diner Celebrates 45 Years With Nostalgic 1981 Deals

Family-owned Crystal Lake diner honors its roots with throwback prices, homemade favorites, and a nod to longtime customers.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — Andy’s Restaurant, a family‑owned diner in Crystal Lake, is celebrating its 45th anniversary Thursday with 45‑cent coffee and other special offerings on Thursday.

The diner, known for homemade soup, gravy and coffee, was started in 1981 by Greek immigrant Andrew Piculas, who bought and renamed the former Lakeview Restaurant, according to Shaw Local. Piculas’children took over the business after his death in 2022, and today his grandson manages the restaurant, which longtime customers consider a community pillar.

The family credits their enduring success to loyal patrons, longstanding staff and a commitment to the traditions established by the founder, according to Shaw Local.
