Crystal Lake Elementary District 47 Hosts 2nd Annual Transliteracy Conference

The two-day conference on transliteracy, the intersection between technology and literacy, will be held at Hannah Beardsley on August 5-6.

More than 100 District 47 educators and administrators will gather next week to learn strategies, tips and tricks related to an emerging concept known as transliteracy.

Transliteracy --the ability to read, write, and communicate across a wide range of platforms, tools, and media--is a fairly new concept in the educational community and relates to technology strategies that improve the classroom setting and can be applied to all content areas.

The conference will consist of workshops and breakout sessions targeted to various skill levels. Topics to be featured include iPads and Google instruction, digital literacy, Google Apps in the classroom, eBooks and digital bookclubs, blended learning, and technology integration for the Common Core, to name a few.

Spotlight presenters include some of the area’s most accomplished experts in educational technology, including distinguished educators and award-winning instructional technology coaches from District 47 and other area school districts, as well as a faculty member of the STEM program at Northwestern University and experts from the STEM Reads program from Northern Illinois University.

D47’s Dave Jenkins, assistant superintendent of technology services, says he is excited about the event’s all-star lineup of presenters and the opportunity it provides educators to interact with one another. “It’s great to see educators energize and inspire each other and become enlightened by what they learn,” he said.
