Crystal Lake Gun Range Offering Free Class For Teachers

On Target Range and Tactical Training Center in Crystal Lake is offering a free two-day concealed class for teachers.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL – It's a controversial topic these days: should teachers be allowed to carry guns to protect themselves, and schoolchildren, against a potential threat or mass shooting? President Donald Trump first advocated for arming teachers following the Parkland, Flor., mass shooting last month that left 17 dead. And even though legislation has not passed in Illinois regarding the proposal, and Trump is now leaving it in the hands of local communities and states to pass such requirements, one suburban business has decided to get ahead of the game.

On Target Range and Tactical Training Center in Crystal Lake is offering free concealed carry classes to school employees. The business plans to reserve six spots for teachers in its concealed carry classes, according to CBS Chicago. The class typically costs $225.

“In the event that something horrible happens, like someone coming into a school with a gun, there is a line of defense of teachers who are trained and have the guts to do what it takes to save the lives of our children,” Tom Dorsch, the gun range’s operations manager, told CBS Chicago.
