Crystal Lake Home Damaged in Fire on Thanksgiving

The blaze at 221 Union Street caused $50,000 in damage.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL - A fire at a Crystal Lake home on Thanksgiving evening caused $50,000 in damages, fire officials said.

The Crystal Lake Fire and Rescue Department was called to the house fire at 221 Union Street in Crystal Lake at 6:41 p.m., according to a news release from the fire department. When firefighters arrived, they found light smoke coming from the second floor of the residence and learned there were no residents inside.

The fire was quickly extinguished and contained to the room where it originated but there was smoke damage to the whole home, according to the news release.

One person was evaluated at the scene for smoke inhalation and no firefighters were injured during the blaze, according to the Crystal Lake Fire and Rescue press release.

The total amount of damage to the home is $50,000.

NICOR and ComEd also responded to the scene of the blaze to secure the utilities to the home.

Several additional fire departments assisted at the scene of the blaze, including: Algonquin/Lake in the Hills, McHenry Township, Barrington-Countryside, West Dundee, Carpentersville and Marengo.
