Crystal Lake Home Uninhabitable After Early Morning Fire

A blaze broke out at the home on Briarwood Road early Friday morning.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — No one was injured following an early morning fire at a home in Crystal Lake.

The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded to the blaze at 209 Briarwood Road at about 4:20 a.m. Friday after residents at the home smelled smoke and found a fire in the residence's attached garage, according to a news release from the fire department. The blaze spread into the attic area of the garage.

The blaze caused an estimated $40,000 in fire and smoke damage to the garage and smoke damage to the home. Officials have determined the home is currently uninhabitable.

The American Red Cross is assisting the seven people who were residing at the home to find a place to live while repairs are made.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and is being investigated by the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department.
