Crystal Lake Park District Names New Executive Director
Kurt Reckamp promoted to Executive Director after nationwide search

For Immediate Release: Crystal Lake, IL — Following an extensive search process, the Crystal Lake Park District Board of Commissioners is pleased to announce the appointment of Kurt Reckamp as the District's new Executive Director.
Kurt brings more than 18 years of executive-level parks and recreation leadership experience to the role and has served the Crystal Lake Park District for the past eight years as Superintendent of Recreation Programs and Facility Services. Kurt's promotion reflects the trust and confidence he has earned through his leadership and commitment to the organization and the community.
Throughout the recruitment and interview process, Kurt distinguished himself in numerous ways. His eight years of dedicated, proven service to the Crystal Lake Park District, deep understanding of the District's vision and strategic direction, the respect he has earned from staff and leadership, his thoughtful approach to working with residents and colleagues, and his strong ties to the Crystal Lake community made him the clear choice for this role.

The Board of Commissioners is confident that, under Kurt's leadership, the Crystal Lake Park District will continue to thrive and remain in thoughtful, capable hands for years to come.
Kurt earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wartburg College and is a Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP), a nationally recognized certification awarded by the National Recreation and Park Association that recognizes professionals who demonstrate excellence in the leadership and management of parks and recreation services.

Prior to joining the Crystal Lake Park District, Kurt spent 10 years as Superintendent of Recreation at the Streamwood Park District. Since arriving in Crystal Lake, he has played an integral role in expanding recreation programming, enhancing district facilities, and helping guide both the district’s 10-Year Capital Improvement Plan and 5-Year Master Plan. He also served on the team that developed the district’s current mission statement.
As Executive Director, Kurt plans to build on the district’s solid foundation while continuing to invest in parks, facilities, and innovative programming.
"My priority is to continue building on the great work that's already been done while always looking toward the future," he said. "We're committed to reinvesting in neighborhood and community parks, expanding recreation opportunities, and creating experiences that bring people together. Whether we're preserving beloved traditions like the Tuesday Night Concert Series or introducing new events and programs, our goal is to ensure our parks and recreation services remain one of the reasons people love calling Crystal Lake home."
Kurt believes the District's success is built on the dedication of its staff and the strong relationships it has fostered throughout the community. "One of my greatest strengths is believing in collaboration," he said. "Parks and recreation is truly a team effort. I'm fortunate to work alongside an incredibly talented staff and outstanding community partners. My role is to support them, remove obstacles, and help them continue delivering exceptional experiences for our residents."
Outside of work, Kurt and his family are active participants in Crystal Lake Park District programs and facilities. They enjoy playing pickleball at Spoerl Park, attending Tuesday Night Concerts, exploring the trails at Veterans Acres and Sterne’s Woods, and cheering on youth sports at Lippold Park. His children have participated in numerous Park District programs, giving him a unique perspective as both a parent and a professional. An avid runner, Kurt has completed the Chicago Marathon seven times and enjoys training on Crystal Lake's extensive trail system.
As Executive Director, Kurt looks forward to honoring the traditions that generations of residents have cherished while embracing new opportunities to serve the evolving needs of the community.
"I've seen firsthand how parks and recreation strengthen families and bring communities together," Kurt said. "I'm excited to work alongside our outstanding staff, Board of Commissioners, and community partners as we continue creating meaningful experiences and preserving what makes Crystal Lake such a special place for generations to come."
