Crystal Lake Police Conduct Sex Offender Compliance Checks

The police department found no violations during its checks in April.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL - The Crystal Lake Police Department conducted compliance checks for registered sex offenders living in the city over the past month and found no violations, police said. Officers went to the residences of the 21 registered sex offenders in Crystal Lake to make sure they were residing at their registered addresses. They also checked to make sure information provided on their registration forms is current and accurate.

Under state law, registered sex offenders are required to report any change to registration information within three days. Non-compliance may result in a violation of the sex offender registration act, which is a Class 4 felony, according to the news release.

The Crystal Lake Police Department conducts compliance checks periodically throughout the year.

The Crystal Lake Police Department also provides a website called OffenderWatch, which allows residents to enter a geographical location and determine the location’s proximity to registered sex offenders. Citizens also have the ability to sign up for confidential email alerts to track sex offender residential movements.
