Crystal Lake Police Issue 34 Citations Over Super Bowl Weekend
The Crystal Lake Police Department stepped up enforcement between Feb. 3 and Feb. 6.

The Crystal Lake Police Department participated in the Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program conducted during this past Super Bowl Weekend.
Law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois, including the Crystal Lake Police Department, participated in this statewide effort from Feb. 3 through Feb. 6 in an effort to curb drunken driving and encourage seatbelt use.
Because of the additional patrols, the Crystal Lake Police Department conducted traffic stops on an additional 41 motorists for traffic violations and issued a total of 34 additional traffic citations, which included:

- 19 citations for unlawful use of an electronic communications device
- 7 citations for speeding
- 5 citations for seatbelt violation
- 2 citations for operation of an uninsured motor vehicle
- 1 citation for other moving violations and equipment
In addition, one person received an adjudication citation for possession of cannabis drug/paraphernalia.
Part of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns, this recent traffic enforcement operation was made possible by federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Safety Programs.
