Crystal Lake Police Plan Halloween Traffic Safety Campaign

Officers will be out in full force this Halloween, keeping a lookout for people who are driving under the influence.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — Police will be out in full force this Halloween, keeping an eye out for drunken drivers.

Authorities are reminding drivers to plan a safe way home after their Halloween parties and to designate a sober driver, take public transportation or utilize a ride-sharing service, according to a news release from the Crystal Lake Police Department. In addition, those who are intoxicated and walking home should have a sober friend walk with them to make sure they get there safely.

Authorities are also asking residents to call police if they see an impaired driver on the road.

"The Crystal Lake Police Department urges motorists to commit to sober driving this Halloween, when children and their families will be walking through neighborhoods after dark in search of candy and spooky fun," according to a news release from the Crystal Lake Police Department.

It is illegal to drive while impaired by alcohol, marijuana or other substances in Illinois, police said.

The Halloween enforcement and awareness effort is funded by federal highway safety dollars, which are administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
