Crystal Lake's Colonial Cafe Closes
The restaurant along Northwest Highway closed abruptly on Monday.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL -- After 33 years in Crystal Lake, Colonial Cafe closed abruptly on Monday. Meanwhile, the Colonial Cafe in Elgin, which had been open for 40 years at 600 S. McClean Boulevard, has closed as well. Other restaurant locations in Algonquin, St. Charles, Naperville and Aurora remain open.
The Elgin location was the company's "slowest" restaurant, board chairman Tom Anderson told the Daily Herald. Even though the location spent decades in the community, it was "basically bypassed by Randall Road," Anderson said.

The Crystal Lake location, at 5689 Northwest Highway, has been listed for sale for a few month and there "has been a little bit of interest," Anderson told the newspaper. He said all employees at the shuttered locations had been offered positions at other restaurants.
