Crystal Point Mall Prepares for Expansion

The former Colonial Cafe building has been demolished, making way for a multi-tenant building.

The demolition of the old building at Crystal Point Mall is making way for a new 6,131-square-foot multi-tenant building. 

The building will have three tenant spaces, one with a drive-through space included. 

“There are several tenants scheduled to go in there,” said James Richter II, assistant director of economic development for .

Richter wouldn’t release the names of the tenants as the leases have not yet been executed. He did not know when construction would begin on the new building located at 6000 Northwest Highway. 

Colonial Café left the site after buying the former Baker’s Square building at 5689 Northwest Highway last year. It recently opened for business at the new location.  The popular family restaurant had leased the building from Inland Real Estate Corporation for 25 years.

“Colonial wanted to buy their own space so they moved to Baker’s Square so they could purchase that property,” Richter said. 

Earlier this year and left the mall. Borders’ departure was part of a company-wide restructuring under Chapter 11 bankruptcy closing 200 stores nationwide. 

Office Depot had been at the mall since 1998 and did not renew its lease this year. 

A clothing store, Ross Dress For Less, is moving into the vacated Office Depot location and the former Borders will soon be occupied by Fresh Market, a grocery store chain. 

An Inland Realty spokesperson declined comment about the new building.
