Dawnbreakers Rotary Club awards $7,000 in vocational scholarships

Seven individuals received scholarships from the Rotary Club of Crystal Lake Dawnbreakers at the June 13 meeting.

(Crystal Lake, IL) Seven individuals received scholarships from the Rotary Club of Crystal Lake Dawnbreakers at the June 13 meeting. Each person was given $1,000 to support their vocational education. The club’s Vocational Chair, Susan Kirby announced that this was the greatest number of Vocational Scholarships given in one year by the club.

“There were so many impressive applicants for the funds that the club voted to increase the number awarded to seven,” explained Kirby. “Each person received $1,000 to apply to their school. This year winners are being educated by McHenry County College, Ohio Technical College and First Institute.”

Rotary has offered Vocational Scholarships for more than 20 years in honor of deceased Rotarian Joe Hebling who served as Vice President at McHenry County College in the 1990s.

Rotary Club of Crystal Lake Dawnbreakers was founded in 1989 and is one of 33,000 Rotary Clubs globally. Rotary International started in Chicago in 1905 by attorney Paul Harris who sought to build friendships with other business people by doing community service. The Rotary Motto is “Service Above Self”.

Each year, Rotary Club of Crystal Lake Dawnbreakers hosts a Western Auction to raise funds for community giving. The club has raised over $1.5 million and given funds to scholarships, local nonprofits, global literacy, water and hygiene as well as world peace. All clubs contribute to End Polio Now which is a partnership with Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Rotary. End Polio Now, started in the 1980s is responsible for the near elimination of Polio in the world today.

Rotary Dawnbreakers Charity Fund is a 501(c)3 Not For Profit organization.

The Rotary Club of Crystal Lake Dawnbreakers is celebrating their 30th year. The club meets each Wednesday from 6:30 am to 7:30 am, location varies. More information on the club can be found on the website www.CLDawnbreakers.org.
