District 47 Weighs Elementary School Restructuring

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — Crystal Lake Elementary District 47 is considering restructuring its elementary schools into grade-level centers as part of an effort to address overcrowding in some schools and declining enrollment in others, according to Shaw Local.
One proposal would pair nearby schools, with one serving kindergarten through third grade and the other serving fourth and fifth grade, while keeping existing attendance boundaries intact. District officials said the plan is designed to better balance class sizes as new housing developments continue to drive enrollment growth in northern Crystal Lake, according to Shaw Local.
The school board is expected to vote on the proposal in November, with any approved changes taking effect for the 2027-28 school year.
