'Dream Gowns Bridal' Coming to Crystal Lake
Bridal shop will feature regular size bridal gowns as well as gowns for larger women.

Three years ago, Deborah Donaldson came to the realization that the bridal market for larger-sized women is underserved.
"There needs to be a bridal shop that carries sizes above size 14 so everyone can enjoy the bridal experience," Donaldson told Crystal Lake City Council members last week. "We believe everyone has the right to look and feel beautiful on her wedding day."
Donaldson plans to open Dream Gowns Bridal store at 16 W. Crystal Lake Plaza, Crystal Lake. The location is perfect, she told city council members, as it is located next to a bakery and flower shop.

Council members unanimously voted in favor of approving a $10,000 New Retailer Job Creation and Investment Matching grant application for the business. (Council members Ellen Brady Mueller and Brett Hopkins were not present).
The grant will help cover part of the more than $21,000 Donaldson will spend on furniture, fixtures, office equipment and interior improvements for the 5,250 square feet location.

Donaldson said she plans to offer a large selection of bridalwear fashions and accessories in regular sizes. But, it's the expansive selection of plus-size gowns that will make the store unique.
The store will carry bridal gowns and dresses up to size 28, she said.
In 2011, the Crystal Lake City Council approved the Retailer and Manufacturer Job Creation and Investment Programs, which provide grant funding to new and existing retailers who occupy vacant space and hire new full-time or part-time employees, and/or install eligible furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
