Driver Fled, Left Injured Passenger After DUI Crash: Police

The Cary man faces aggravated drunken driving charges following the Nov. 19 crash.

CARY, IL — A 59-year-old Cary man remains behind bars for accusations he drove drunk and crashed his car into a tree and then fled on foot, leaving an injured passenger in his car behind, according to Shaw Media.

Richard A. Koranda is charged with aggravated driving while under the influence accident - bodily harm, leaving the scene of an accident and DUI/alcohol in McHenry County, according to online records. As of Tuesday morning, he remained in custody at the McHenry County Jail on a $15,000 bail.

Police say Koranda's car crashed into a tree in the area of Wedgewood Drive and Plantain Court in Crystal Lake at about 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 19, according to the article. He walked away from the crash but was found a few blocks away. The injured passenger was taken to a local hospital for injuries that are no considered life-threatening, police told Shaw Media.
