Drug Induced Homicide Charges Filed In Overdose Death

The charges have been filed following an investigation into the death of Charles McCoy of McHenry.

MCHENRY, IL — Two suburban men have been charged in connection with the heroin overdose death of a 28-year-old McHenry man, authority said Thursday. Kenneth M. Harris, 25, of Woodridge, was arrested near Indianapolis Tuesday on a warrant and is charged with three counts of drug induced homicide for his alleged role in providing drugs to Charles D. McCoy last fall.

Gabriel A. Stanaszek, 21, of the 800 block of Buckingham Court in Crystal Lake, was also arrested on Tuesday after being charged last month with delivery of a controlled substance.

The charges were filed following an investigation into McCoy’s death on September 5, 2018. On that date, the McHenry Police Department and McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded for a rescue call in the 3200 block of Kinley Boulevard in McHenry regarding an unresponsive adult male. First responders attempted life saving measures and McCoy was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Autopsy results confirmed McCoy died due to the adverse effect of heroin and fentanyl, authorities said.

Kenneth is currently being housed at the Hendricks County Jail awaiting extradition to McHenry County Jail. Stanaszek was taken into custody without incident, booked at the McHenry Police Department and released on bond.
