Drunken Driver Goes Over Retaining Wall: Police

Keith Whippie, 44, of Cary, was taken to the hospital following the incident Friday night, police said.

CARY, IL — A drunk driver drove through the Jewel-Osco parking lot, over a curb and sidewalk, through a fence and off a 12-foot retaining wall Friday night, police said. The driver, Keith Whippie, 44, of Cary, was taken to Good Shepherd Hospital with minor injuries and now faces charges in connection with the incident, which occurred at about 10:26 p.m. in the Cary Square Shopping Center parking lot along West Northwest Highway in Cary.

Police received a call from a customer at Jewel-Osco who said a man who appeared to be intoxicated got into a blue pick-up truck and started driving east through the parking lot, eventually ending up over the retaining wall, according to the Cary Police Department news release.

His truck landed on its side in the Galati's Hideaway parking lot, which is located at 800 Feinberg Court. Whippie is charged with DUI - alcohol, driving with a blood alcohol concentration under .08 and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident - petty offense.
