Off-Duty Woodstock Officer Accused of Driving Drunk, Crashing in Lake Co.

The single-vehicle crash happened in Round Lake Beach during the early morning hours of Feb. 11.

An off-duty Woodstock Police Department officer is accused of driving drunk and crashing into a utility pole and a highway marker in Lake County earlier this month, the Northwest Herald reports.

Michael E. Niedzwiecki, 29, of Lake Villa, told police officers he was driving north on Hainesville Road near Rollins Road in Round Lake Beach when he “forgot” about a sharp curve in the road and crashed the vehicle, according to a police report obtained by the Northwest Herald. The crash happened at about 1:49 a.m. on Feb. 11.

Niedzwiecki refused to participate in field sobriety tests and also refused to submit a breath sample, according to the Northwest Herald. At one point, he also showed authorities his badge.
