Elderly Man Found Dead After Apartment Fire
The blaze broke out early Thursday at an apartment building in McHenry.
MCHENRY, IL — An elderly man was found dead inside a McHenry apartment after a fire broke out early Thursday.
The McHenry Township Fire Protection District was called to the blaze in the 800 block of North Southgate Street at about 12:05 a.m. When fire crews arrived, they found a fully-engulfed fire within a unit, according to a news release. A 77-year-old man was found dead inside the apartment.

The man's identity has not yet been released, authorities said.
Officials evacuated the rest of the apartment building, which included four units, as well as a neighboring building, according to the news release. Two units within the apartment building are uninhabitable.

Authorities say the fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature.
Investigators from the McHenry Police Department, McHenry Township Fire Protection District and the Illinois State Fire Marshall’s Office are investigating the cause of the fire.
