Election Judge Dies At Polling Place In McHenry County: Coroner

A 75-year-old McHenry man suffered a cardiac event while working at polling place Tuesday night, according to the coroner's office.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A 75-year-old McHenry man died Tuesday night after suffering a medical emergency while working as an election judge at McCullom Lake Village Hall, according to the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

The McHenry County Coroner's Office was contacted by the McCullom Lake Police Department at about 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday to investigate the death of Petter Culver, according to a coroner's office news release.

Authorities said Culver experienced a cardiac event while serving as an election judge at the village hall polling location.

The coroner's office determined the was from natural causes.

During the incident, McHenry County Coroner Michael Rein said he spoke with Joe Tirio regarding election operations taking place at the time.

The coroner's office took precautions to secure the area where Culver was found before the scene was turned back over to election officials, Rein said.

“I want to thank Mr. Tirio and his team for the professionalism they showed during this unusual and unfortunate event,” Coroner Michael Rein said in a statement.
