Escaped Donkey Hit by Train After Roaming McHenry County for Days

The Bull Valley donkey, named Dominic, wandered through Woodstock and surrounding areas for several days before being struck by a train.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A donkey that escaped from a property in Bull Valley and spent several days roaming around the Woodstock area was struck and killed by a train Tuesday evening, according to Shaw Local

The donkey, named Dominic, escaped from a farm in Bull Valley Sunday while its hooves were being worked on, the animal’s owner told the Shaw Local.

After escaping, the animal was spotted multiple times in and around Woodstock, including near stores like Walmart and Menards, according to the Lake & McHenry County Scanner.

Police confirmed they were aware of the loose donkey and that animal control had been notified after the escape was reported Sunday. Despite efforts to capture it, the donkey was struck by a train Tuesday evening near the Woodstock-Harvard area, the owner told Shaw Local on Wednesday.

Officials have not released additional details about the incident.
