Sounds of Faith - An Interfaith Concert

Outstanding musicians from three “Abrahamic” faiths will come together for a stimulating musical “dialogue” in Crystal Lake. Come and experience authentic voices of differing traditions through chant, choral music, shofars, etc. Children from all three traditions will share the musical heritage of their distinct ethnic and religious traditions. Steve Szalaj, founding Director of Voices in Harmony and Choral Director at McHenry County College, is coordinating the event with Matthew Dean, Director of Schola Antigua

The event is a fund-raiser for FaithBridge. FaithBridge has  pioneered the well-attended Annual Martin Luther King, Jr Prayer Breakfasts, the Annual Community Thanksgiving Celebrations that benefit of local food shelves, dialogue groups, and a two-year class in interfaith studies for lay people that has gained national attention. The concert also will benefit the Harran Productions Foundation which seeks to produce high quality videos for the purpose of increasing multi-cultural understanding.

Sounds of Faith is the brainchild of Shakeela Hassan, MD, Professor Emeritus at the University of Chicago and founder of The Harran Productions Foundation. It has been performed at major institutions in New York City, Miami, Chicago and other cities. Plans are being made to take it to Istanbul and Jerusalem. Dr. Scott Alexander (Catholic Theological Union), Rabbi Michael R. Zedek (Emanuel Congregation), Matthew Dean (Schola Antigua) and possibly broadcaster Bill Kurtis will join Dr. Hassan and local faith leaders to introduce the program. We are recruiting the best choirs, vocalists, instrumentalists and ensembles from our area and throughout Chicagoland. Our goal is to increase understanding by sharing the sounds and music of our traditions.
