Explosion, Fire Leads To Partial Collapse Of Garage In Crystal Lake
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The home on Boxwood Lane is currently uninhabitable, according to fire officials.
CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — A propane gas tank exploded during a garage fire in Crystal Lake Sunday evening, and strong winds lead to the blaze quickly spreading through the home, according to fire officials.
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded to the fire at 1396 Boxwood Lane at 5:25 p.m. on Sunday. Residents living at the home were able to safely get out without being injured, according to a news release from the fire department.
The fire caused the second floor above the garage to collapse. Strong wind conditions led to the blaze spreading into the attic area of the home on Boxwood Lane and through the rest of the house, according to the news release.

Fire officials determined an explosion reported during the fire was from a 20-pound propane tank meant for grilling, which ruptured. The blaze was brought under control by 6:36 p.m.
The home has been deemed uninhabitable, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
