Flooding Update: Road, Park Closures in McHenry, Lake, Kane Counties

Heavy rains have wreaked havoc on local infrastructure in recent days. The flooding has forced roads and parks to close and more closures, and even evacuations, could be ordered if the flooding gets worse. Heavy rains are possibly Friday afternoon and evening and there is also a chance for thunderstorms on Saturday and Sunday.

Park Closures

• Cornish Park in Algonquin
• Towne Park in Algonquin
• Riverfront Park in Algonquin
• Hickory Grove Forest Preserve in Cary is closed along the riverfront and trail to Silver Creek

Kane County

Park Closures

Currently, part or all of the following Kane County forest preserves are closed:

• Buffalo Park Forest Preserve in Algonquin
• •Carpentersville Dam in Carpentersville
• Voyageur Landing Forest Preserve in Dundee

Additionally, the Fox River Trail is closed at Stearns Road in South Elgin, and at Arthur Andersen Forest Preserve in St. Charles, due to flooding. The trail spur to the Fox River Trail under Route 31 at Tyler Creek Forest Preserve in Elgin is also closed.

Portions of trails are flooded at Brunner Family Forest Preserve in Dundee; Fitchie Creek Forest Preserve in Elgin; Muirhead Springs Forest Preserve in Hampshire; Raceway Woods Forest Preserve in Carpentersville; and at Riverbend Trail in St. Charles.

Boat launches at Jon Duerr Forest Preserve in South Elgin, Voyageur Landing Forest Preserve in Dundee and Fox River Shores in Carpentersville are closed. The Fox River remains closed to recreational watercraft.

Cook County

• River Rd: Miner US-14 to Oakton in (Cook County)
• IL-58 (Golf Rd) US-45 (River Rd) - East River Rd, Des Plaines in Cook County)
• Central Ave. US-45 (River Rd)- East River Rd, Des Plaines in (Cook County)
• River Road: IL-171 (1st Ave-Thatcher)- Belmont Ave
• Grand Ave: IL-171 (1st Ave) - 25h Avenue
• 5th Avenue: River Rd- Palmer

• Rawson Bridge Road - west of Roberts Road is closed due to flooding.
• Nippersink Road between Fairfield Road and Wilson Road in Round Lake is closed due to flooding
