Gang Members Arrested on Battery Charges

Victims say they didn't know their attackers or the motive for the assault.

Four Crystal Lake men have been charged with felony aggravated battery and felony mob action May 27 after allegedly attacking three men in the area of Woodstock and Williams streets around 2 a.m. on May 7.

The victims told police they did not know their attackers, who suddenly approached them unprovoked near the park at the Metra train station, verbally abusing them and beating them with fists and feet. No weapons were used, police said.

The victims, all in their 20’s, told Crystal Lake Police they were walking to a downtown apartment after a night out when the incident occurred.

The attack was believed to have lasted less than a minute or two, said Deputy Chief Eugene Lowery, and left two of the victims’ faces bruised, red and swollen. The victims refused medical assistance.

One of the victims took note of a license plate number on a car that sped off after the attack, which aided police in its investigation.

“I do believe it was an unprovoked attack,” Lowery said. “At this point in the investigation we don’t have any information that indicates otherwise.”

Lowery noted that the alleged offenders were gang members not specific to the City of Crystal Lake.

“We take a special interest when offenders that are involved in cases like this are documented gang members,” he said.

Investigators tracked down the suspects through information provided by the victims, known associates and other means, he sad.

A warrant was issued on May 27 for Edgar M. Alonso, 21, 233 Uteg St., Apt. 5, Crystal Lake; Alexis Miron, 26, 605 Elsinoor Lane, Crystal Lake; Andres Correa-Pedroza, 22, 646 Elsinoor Lane, Crystal Lake; and Froylan M. Alonso, 24, 233 Uteg St. Apt. 5, Crystal Lake.

All were arrested the same day without incident and positively identified by the victims, Lowery said.

Miron was taken into custody May 27 during a traffic stop which resulted in additional charges including possession of cannabis, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without a valid driver’s license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle—all misdemeanor charges.

Bond was set for all men at $35,000 and a court date set for June 17 at McHenry County Courthouse in Woodstock. Froylan Alonso and Miron were able to post the 10 percent bail on May 27 and were released. Edgar Alonso and Correa-Pedroza were turned over to McHenry County Adult Correctional Facility. Edgar Alonso has since made bail; Correa-Pedroza remains at the jail.
