Garage Destroyed In Blaze, Home Is Uninhabitable: Fire Officials

No one was injured in the fire at a home in the 5700 block of Briarwood Road in unincorporated Crystal Lake Thursday.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — A Crystal Lake home is uninhabitable following a house fire Thursday afternoon.

The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded at about 3:20 p.m. to the blaze in the 5700 block of Briarwood Road in unincorporated Crystal Lake where they found an attached garage fully engulfed in flames, according to a news release from the fire department. The fire began to spread into the home before firefighters declared the blaze under control at 4:03 p.m.

The garage was deemed a total loss and the home, which sustained heat, water and smoke damage, is uninhabitable until repairs can be made, authorities said. Damage is estimated at $200,000.

No one was injured in the blaze, and the two occupants inside the home were able to safely get out before firefighters arrived at the scene. The American Red Cross is assisting the residents and helping them to find shelter and with other needs, according to the news release.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
