Horses Hit By Vehicles, Killed In McHenry County: Authorities

WOODSTOCK, IL — Two horses walking along Route 120 were hit by two different vehicles and killed early Friday in McHenry County, authorities said.

The horses were in or near the intersection of Route 120 and Thompson Road in Woodstock when the incident occurred just before 5 a.m. on Friday, according to a news release from the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District. A white Ford van hit one of the horses in the intersection while a red GMC pickup truck hit the other one just west of the intersection.

Both vehicles were headed east at the time of the collision, authorities said. Neither of the drivers were injured, but both vehicles sustained heavy damage.

The horses were both found dead in the roadway when authorities arrived at the scene. Authorities did not have any immediate information on how or why the horses got onto the roadway.

The intersection was closed for 1.5 hours as authorities cleaned up the scene and removed the dead horses from the roadway, according to the news release. The roadway reopened at 6:30 a.m.
