Husmann Elementary Celebrates International Peace Day

Students create and display "pinwheels for peace" on the school's front lawn.

Husmann Elementary celebrated International Day of Peace on September 21, 2017 with Pinwheels for Peace created by students. Since the start of school, students have been learning about the importance of peace (for school, family, world, etc.) in their encore classes. This cross-curricular “peaceful” event included pinwheel decorating in art and STEM class, singing songs about peace in music, and playing cooperative and peace-related games in physical education classes. Adults pictured (from left) are Husmann encore teachers Kerri Tilton (STEM) and Jill Kuhns (PE); D47 Board president Rob Fetzner; and Husmann encore teachers Donna Ladner (music) and Anita Wolfe (art). Second grade students pictured (front row, from left): Makoa Evert, Kaitlen Bredeson, Callie Koch, Ava Crowley, Lisette Silva and Elynor Raithel. Back row, from left: Ethan Schroeder, Justin Palese, Kyla Sedivy, Eli Warfel and Emily Turngren.
