Joseph's Marketplace Groceries Discounted As Closing Nears
All groceries, dairy and frozen items are now 40 percent off.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL – While an exact closing date has not been announced for Joseph's Marketplace, groceries still left in the store are now 40 percent off, according to a post Wednesday on the grocer's Facebook page. Joseph's Marketplace, at 29 Crystal Lake Plaza, opened in 2005 along Route 14 and announced last month it would be closing its doors.
In recent weeks, groceries and frozen items were marked down to 20 percent and then 30 percent before the grocer announced Wednesday that groceries, dairy and frozen items are now 40 percent off. A store employee told Patch Thursday an exact closing date had not yet been set. Earlier this month, a store employee said the store was planning to close in two to three weeks.
Heather Maieritsch, economic development manager for the city of Crystal Lake, said Joseph's had not provided the city with an official closing date.

"Joseph's will be missed," Maieritsch said in an e-mail response, "they have provided the Crystal Lake community with a great selection of international foods."
Joseph's has long been known not only for its hard-to-find grocery items, including many international grocery items, but its fresh produce. Residents reported on Joseph's Facebook page that many of their favorite grocery items were already gone as many have been taking advantage of the discounts.
