Kane Co. Launches Disaster Ready Network, Invites Local Organizations to Join

Nonprofits, businesses and community groups are invited to a meeting to help Kane County prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters

GENEVA, IL — Disaster Ready Kane, an initiative of the Kane County Office of Emergency Management, is building a coordinated support network to help residents and businesses prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters.

The program invites local nonprofits, faith-based groups, service agencies, businesses, and community organizations to learn how they can join this effort to stabilize, rebuild, and recover more quickly after a major emergency, according to a news release.

“Strong partnerships are the foundation of effective disaster response,” said Scott Buziecki, Director of the Kane County Office of Emergency Management. “Disaster Ready Kane ensures we are not meeting each other for the first time during a crisis. We are building relationships, clarifying roles, and strengthening our ability to serve residents when it matters most.”

“Major disasters test the entire community, not just first responders,” added Joe Cluchey, Interim Chairman of Disaster Ready Kane and retired South Elgin and Elburn Fire Chief. “Engaging organizations ahead of an event allows for a more effective and compassionate response. This is about neighbors helping neighbors in a meaningful way.”
