The fourth annual Labor Day Celebration on Woodstock Square will be held Monday, September 3 from 11am-2pm. The traditional rally with speakers and music will highlight about the origins and traditions of Labor Day, Woodstock’s own connection through Eugene V. Debs and the aftermath of the Pullman Strike of 1894, and the continued relevance of the labor movement and democratic values today.

Historical speakers include Kathleen Spaltro of Woodstock Celebrates and the upcoming Debs/Pullman program this fall, story teller Jim May, and labor historian and activist Patrick Murfin. Speakers on today’s labor issues and mobilizing for change include Brian Dupois of the Northeastern Federation of Labor AFL/CIO, Wally Emerson of Automobile Mechanics Union Local 701, Carlos Acosta of ASME and a County Board Candidate, Kristina Zahorik, Chair of the Democratic Party of McHenry County, and others.

The program will be hosted by Steve Stukenberg of McHenry County Progressives with music by Keith Johnson and Off Square Music. Stukenberg extends a special welcome call to working families, “Join us in Solidarity to celebrate Labor voices of the past and labor voices of the future.”
