License Suspended for Doctor Accused of Overprescribing Pain Medication

The DEA has been investigating Raman I. Popli, a doctor in McHenry, for over a year.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL - A McHenry doctor who has been practicing in the area for more than 14 years has had his license temporarily suspended following an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration that showed he had been over prescribing opioid pain medication, the Northwest Herald reports.

Raman I. Popli became the focus of a DEA investigation after a concerned pharmacist in McHenry told authorities he was overprescribing and also allowing his patients to get early refills of the medication more than once a month, according to the newspaper.

DEA agents posed as patients and were able to get prescriptions for hydrocodone despite displaying several “red flags,” while other investigators, who complained of discomfort or soreness, were prescribed Norco even though they were not given a thorough examination or an X-Ray, according to the Northwest Herald.
