Man, 26, Seriously Injured in McHenry County Crash

A patrol deputy happened upon the one-vehicle crash Sunday morning.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL - A 26-year-old man was seriously injured in a one-vehicle crash after colliding with a tree in rural McHenry County. The crash was found by a Lake County Sheriff's Office deputy on patrol in the area at about 7:36 a.m. on Sunday, according to a news release from the Cary Fire Protection District. When paramedics arrived on scene, they found the driver trapped in a vehicle, which was off the roadway and in a ditch in the 6900 block of Hickory Nut Grove Road.

It took paramedics 22 minutes to safely extricate the driver from the mangled car, fire officials said. A Flight for Life helicopter was called to the scene and landed at Cary Junior High School, 2109 Crystal Lake Road. Paramedics took the 22-year-old man to the school and he was then transported by Flight for Life helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

The man is in serious condition. The vehicle crash is under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.
