Man, 29, Killed in McHenry Co. Crash

The crash happened Saturday afternoon in Hebron.

HEBRON, IL - A 29-year-old Gurnee man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon in McHenry County.

The crash happened on U.S. Route 173 and Price Road in the village of Hebron at 1:59 p.m., according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office. A 2002 Mercury Villager was heading east on Route 173 when it left the roadway to the south, struck a tree and caught fire.

The driver and sole occupant of the car -- a 29-year-old Gurnee man -- was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release. The name of the man is not currently being released.

The intersection of U.S. Route 173 and Price Road was closed for several hours while the crash was being investigated.

Due to damage to the vehicle, it was not readily apparent if airbags deployed or if the driver had his seatbelt on at the time of the crash, authorities said. It is also unknown whether drugs or alcohol were a factor. Toxicology results are pending.

The crash remains under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Crash Investigations Unit, McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
