Man Accused Of DUI, Hit-And-Run On Route 22
Investigators say the 73-year-old driver was under the influence when he struck a Crystal Lake man walking along Route 22 late Sunday night.
LAKE COUNTY, IL — A Cary man has been charged after authorities say he struck a pedestrian with his vehicle and fled the scene late Sunday night near Barrington.
Lake County Sheriff’s deputies responded around 11:10 p.m. March 16 to a report of a person down near Route 22 and Kelsey Road. When deputies arrived, they found a 33-year-old Crystal Lake man seriously injured along the side of the roadway, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.
The man was initially taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital and later transferred to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with significant injuries, police said. Investigators determined he had been walking along the side of the road when he was struck by a vehicle.

Crash investigators said parts left at the scene indicated the vehicle involved was a silver or gray Volkswagen Atlas traveling westbound on Route 22, according to the news release.
Using the Flock Safety license plate reader system, investigators identified a possible suspect vehicle registered to a Cary home, and deputies later located the vehicle at a home in the 300 block of Sterling Circle in Cary, according to authorities.

Investigators determined the driver, who was identified as John Zurawski, 73, had been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, police said.
He's been charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury crash and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Zurawski remains held at the Lake County Jail pending an initial court hearing Tuesday morning. Authorities said additional charges are possible.
