Man Accused of Strangling Family Member Until She Lost Consciousness
Jose Antonio Escobar-Albarran has been ordered to remain in custody on the aggravated domestic battery charge in McHenry County.
McHENRY COUNTY – A 26-year-old Harvard man is being held in custody after a judge granted the state’s petition to deny pretrial release in a domestic violence case, prosecutors said.
Jose Antonio Escobar-Albarran, 26, made an initial court appearance on Monday where he was formally charged with aggravated domestic battery.
Escobar-Albarran is accused of getting into an argument with a female family member on the evening of April 10 that escalated into a physical assault where he placed his hands around the victim’s neck, restricted her breathing and caused her to lose consciousness, according to a news release from the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office.

According to prosecutors, when the victim regained consciousness, Escobar-Albarran had fled the scene and her phone was missing.
Escobar-Albarran is scheduled to return to court on May 7.
