Man Attacks Victim With Nail Gun In Home Invasion Near Cary

The 52-year-old Cary man is being held on a $3 million bail following the attack early Sunday.

A 52-year-old Cary man is being held on a $3 million bond after he allegedly forced his way into a home near Cary early Sunday and attacked a person with a construction-style nail gun, police said Wednesday. Edward J. Zegers has been charged with attempted murder, home invasion and residential burglary in connection with the July 2 attack.

Authorities took him into custody after they were called to a report of a domestic disturbance at a home in the 7300 block of Swan Way in unincorporated Cary at about 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.

When sheriff's office deputies arrived, they found one victim outside the residence bleeding from the head and face. Authorities found Zegers inside a bedroom in the residence, according to police. He also had facial injuries.

Zegers is accused of forcing his way into the the residence and attacking one victim with a construction style nail gun, according to the news release. A fight followed with the victim sustaining injuries to the head and face. Zegers was also injured during the attack.

The victim was transported to Good Shepherd Hospital and was treated and released. Zegers was also transported to the hospital and released into McHenry County Sheriff’s Office custody on Monday.

Zegers is next expected in court on Friday.
