Man Charged After Dropping Boy, 2, On Head: Authorities
The boy was airlifted to a suburban hospital and suffered hemorrhaging and a skull fracture.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A 23-year-old McHenry man accused of dropping a 2-year-old boy on his head remained in custody at the McHenry County Jail Friday. Zachary Hamann faces charges of aggravated battery, domestic battery and endangering the life or heath of a child in connection with the incident, which left the young boy with brain hemorrhaging and a skull fracture, according to a criminal complaint filed last week in McHenry County Circuit Court.
Hamann was arrested at about 4:10 a.m. on May 24 at his apartment in the 4000 block of West Oak Avenue, according to court records. His bail has been set at $50,000, and he will need to post 10 percent of that amount, or $5,000, to be released.
The Northwest Herald reports a petition filed by the boy's mother, seeking an order of protection against Hamann, states Hamann called her before calling 911 and told her the child fell from a couch. The boy was flown to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge and the mother said, after speaking with doctors, she believes he fell from a higher distance than a couch, according to the article.
